Job Description

The Service Advisor in Orange City Iowa is primarily responsible for assisting the Service Manager with scheduling of customers and coordinating auto repairs with technicians. Ensure that Total’s customers are satisfied with repair work performed.

 

Primary Job Duties

Job duties for the Service Advisor include:

  • Schedule service appointments for customer’s autos for repair, service or warranty work.

  • Contact current customers and convince them to bring vehicles to their unit for inspection & repairs under the vehicle scheduled maintenance or warranty program.

  • “Upselling” vehicle service or repairs as needed.

  • Help ensure that automotive service staff is in compliance with environmental laws and safety regulations.

  • Listen to customer complaints and assist in addressing their issues and resolving challenges.

  • Maintains efficient communications within the department and promotes cooperation and team relations with all the other departments. 

  • Assist with the disposal of wastes such as used engine oil and soot to ensure adherence to health and safety laws.

  • Help assign and schedule work duties to auto service staff according to their skills.

  • If needed, assist service technicians with auto repair services.

  • Follow up with customers to obtain feedback and ensure they are satisfied with received service.

  • Attend workshops and study relevant publications to stay up-to-date with developments in the automotive service industry and General Motors.

  • Complete other tasks or projects assigned by dealership management

 

Desired Education & Qualifications

  • High school diploma with post high school education preferred in the technical field. 6+ years of prior sales & supervisory experience desired with 3-4 years in Automotive Industry required (parts and/or service). Mechanical and technical aptitude is needed. Prior participation in various management development training courses and seminars is also desirable.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

 

  • Communication Skills: Able to effectively interact with co-workers, peers, customers and employees to resolve issues. Must have the ability to interface with customers in order to facilitate repair processes to meet customers’ needs.

  • Technical Skills: Well versed in conducting vehicle inspections to identify faults and initiate repairs to customers’ vehicles.

  • Must be able to plan, direct and delegate work to others.

  • Knowledge of basic Computer programs and operation (Microsoft Word and Excel)

  • Exercise discretion and solid judgment.

  • Possess time management skills.

  • Detail-oriented and able to plan and carryout projects independently.

  • Effectively interface with all levels of employees and management.

  • Must be able to demonstrate professional behavior in all aspects of the position.
